Search early and often, keep a file handy of your applications for reference, be concrete, share your experiences, and this list of tips from Tillie Harris of the Grant Training Center in DC:
  1. Tell a good story: use data and testimonials to show the problem in an engaging way
  2. Know the donor: find one whose agenda matches your own and shares your goals
  3. Fit the grant within the needs of your school: help donors understand who you are and how the funding assistance will enhance your system
  4. Have a good plan and design: make your goals explicit, including the evaluation process
  5. Make it about your beneficiaries: how will your idea help your students
